United Airlines Director, Information Technology - Airport Systems in Chicago, Illinois

This role sits in the Operations and Employee Technology team and will help enable the employees of United Airlines with the best tools to excel at their jobs. You’ll focus on improving platforms, developing best-in-class mobile applications to facilitate collaboration and real-time decision making, and delivering on the digital requests of our front-line colleagues and our United customers.
This role will lead the development, implementation and maintenance of systems within our airports across the world. Millions of our customers interact with these systems annually. They use our technologies when they print their boarding passes, check their bags, find out their gate assignment, fuel your plane or enter one of our Polaris clubs. Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes to get your plane out? Many of these systems support our Station Operations Centers in our key airports to get you safely off the ground. Our customers depend on these systems and tools to ensure a smooth travel experience. With that, these are some of the most highly visible systems across our enterprise.
How You Will Contribute
Developing deep relationships with business stakeholders is critical. You will partner with them to help understand key business drivers that drive IT decisions.
You will be a Thought Leader; you and your team will develop tools to make the customer experience seamless.
This role directs multiple teams of developers involved in the analysis, design and development of complex and large-scale applications which may include both projects and programs.
You’ll ensure our IT team executes against technology priorities and communicates progress to our leaders.
In this role, you’ll lead a team. You’re responsible for developing, motivating and rewarding a team of technologists to ensure optimal performance.
You’ll be accountable for effective project management and deliver of work ensuring projects are in budget, on time and high quality.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration required or equivalent experience, master’s degree preferred
10-15 years of management experience in an IT or leadership related role
Experience in multiple technical platforms, operating systems, databases and development languages including but not limited to mobile, web, mainframe, Unix and Client Server
Experience in transforming legacy IT work streams to mobile platforms
Experience in travel industry, especially airline related is a plus
