Human Resources overview

The Human Resources team helps attract and recruit diverse talent, and works to provide employees with competitive benefits, leadership resources and the support to be successful at United. The Compensation team is responsible for planning and delivery of compensation programs, including base salary, annual or periodic incentives, long-term incentives, profit sharing, job titling and level architecture, and business-specific incentives and other related programs.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Compensation Intern would support both consulting and programs. Some of the tasks include:

  • Support the administration of core compensation processes and operational components of ongoing programs

  • Titling and leveling

  • Gathering, organizing, and storing job descriptions in job description warehouse

  • Updating our HRIS system with appropriate grades, levels, and titles

  • Assisting in the annual salary survey data gathering and submission process

  • Assisting in day-to-day consulting inquiries from internal business groups

  • Assisting in documentation of current compensation processes and procedures

  • Assisting with special projects, ad-hoc requests, and ongoing training and communication of the company’s compensation programs


  • Must be available to work 40 hours a week over the summer

  • Must be a current undergraduate student

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Access

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Solid interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Must be a self-started and able to adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Student studying business, finance/economics, or management information systems
