Technical Operations

Technical Operations is the maintenance, repair and overhaul division of United. The department includes aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, planners, ground equipment and facilities teams, supply chain teams and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

Develop, lead, and manage successful execution of the sourcing and recruiting processes necessary to fill the Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) and/or other positions for Technical Operations and aircraft ground maintenance roles. Develop and manage budget recommendations to ensure adherence to plan. Provide leadership, coaching and direction to team of recruiters and coordinators – including support of Technical Operations leadership/recruiting personnel. Support third-party vendors and sourcing strategies with technical schools, agencies, military outreach, etc. and ensure adherence to service level agreements and delivery of timely processing of candidates. Guide and develop tools and techniques to facilitate staffing and placement needs with best-in-class assessment, recruitment and selection practices. Partner with Technical Operations division and leadership to understand workforce planning and initiatives needed to meet talent requirements. Position is based at our Operations Center located in Elk Grove Village, IL or at our Maintenance Base at the San Francisco Airport (SFO).

  • Ensures the establishment (in conjunction with Technical Operations leaders) of a sourcing network, including: employee referrals, agencies, online advertisers, military, and universities/technical schools

  • Sourcing activities may include:collaboration with industry peers, develop/execute programs to attract candidates, creation of an internal and/or external job posting, manage/create tracking system for employee referrals, etc.

  • Develop recruiting tools and techniques to assist United in meeting staffing and placement needs; including the management of HR staff at interview days / sourcing events

  • Oversee, support, and participate in interviews and selection processes for non-exempt and exempt positions

  • Manage vendors to determine adherence to SLAs

  • Facilitate interviewer training and any other related recruiting training needs

  • Partner with Technical Operations, Finance, Product Line Managers, HR, and Workforce Planning teams to ensure effective workforce planning

  • Keep up-to-date with current employment legislation; apprise/train staff and hiring managers as appropriate

  • Support and guide recruiters to fill vacancies; provide counsel in determination of job offer details, negotiations and preparation of new hire offers

  • Provide leadership and manage recruitment staff (conduct performance reviews, develop staff, provide coaching and daily work direction)

  • Evaluate recruitment program effectiveness; develop and administer customer satisfaction surveys as well as key metrics

  • Provide timely communications to Talent Acquisition Director and Technical Operations leadership on recruitment metrics and activities

  • Review department metrics/dashboards and conduct internal audits to ensure equitable/quality of work processes

  • Integrate information gained about the candidate(s), and decide whether or not to extend a job offer.Activities may include reviewing test data, interviewer's recommendations or leading/participating in selection decision making meetings for internal teams; may assist in the placement of qualified candidates

  • Ensure effective tracking, monitor and compliance oversight of immigration program and export control

  • Ensure appropriate background check clearances are received for hires in accordance with Company policy; direct a smooth transition for candidates to onboarding activities existing onboarding program

  • Maintains complete and accurate staffing documentation as required by law

Qualifications:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Human Resources or related field required

Certification

  • PHR, HRCI or SPHR certification preferred

  • LinkedIn certification preferred

  • Behavioral based interviewer preferred

Knowledge/Skills:

Required

  • Demonstrated measurement, assessment, and evaluation skills

  • Must be customer focused;possess strong relationship building skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products

  • Exhibit advanced analytical skills by examining data to produce meaningful reports, metrics, trends

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

  • Internet savvy and technical ability to utilize applicant tracking systems

  • Must be able to effectively manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written)

Preferred

  • Planning / Project management skills

  • Demonstrated process management experience

  • Experience with workforce planning and modeling

Experience:

Required

  • 5 or more years HR experience, with at least 3 years of dedicated recruiting experience required

  • HR service delivery experience, including organizational interdependencies, interfaces and processes

  • Comprehensive understanding of staffing, recruiting and operations practices, programs and plans

  • Comprehensive knowledge of staffing and recruiting program administration

  • Thorough understanding of federal and state laws and regulations relating to employment, i.e. OFCCP, EEOC

Preferred

  • 2 years prior experience leading a team

  • Experience recruiting from trade schools and community colleges

  • Experience with sourcing candidates via established social media avenues

  • Understanding of federal and state laws and regulations relating to airline industry (i.e. DOL, FAA)

Other

  • Ability to travel min of 35% annually

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
