United is looking for people to join our Global IT group. With an increase of 400% in IT spend since 2012, IT is the largest investment at United after aircrafts. As we continue our transformation we want you to come joins us as we take off! Our IT Risk and Compliance Department within IT is the backbone and foundation for the projects that will help transform United for its customers and employees. We are looking for you to assist a strong team of Cyber Security to deliver Secure Cloud globally under the Senior Leadership of Linda Jojo who won Chicago Chief Information Officer (CIO) of the Year honors in 2017.

The Principal Architect – Cloud Security will provide technical expertise covering a wide range of IT security solutions. The position will provide a great opportunity to grow technically in a fast-paced and exciting environment. Ideal candidate should have a strong foundation across Cloud Service provides such as AWS, Azure etc.

  • Work closely with architects to identify and mitigate risks, perform security reviews, design top tier security practices, and deliver strategic, innovative cloud-based security offerings

  • Perform deep analysis and develop metrics that measure the cloud risks

  • Experience within Enterprise IT with expertise to integrate complex elements and customer requirements into modern technical architectures

  • Document secure architecture and design strategies and roadmaps for cloud solutions

Experience in an IT infrastructure architecture and design experience with:

  • AWS services such as IAM, Config, Cloudwatch, Cloud Trail, EC2, S3, EBS, Direct Connect, VPC and KMS

  • Microsoft Azure services such as Azure AD, Azure Storage, Azure SDK, Azure Cloud Services, Azure SQL Database, Azure Web App, Azure Networking technologies (ExpressRoute, VPN, Virtual Networks, Network Security Groups, Traffic Manager, etc.)

  • DevOps or Infrastructure-as-Code model in AWS leveraging CloudFormation and/or automation tools such as Chef, Puppet or Ansible

Experience with real-world hands-on IT infrastructure experience with:

  • Server virtualization (VMware, KVM, Containers, Linux, Windows)

  • Networks (OSI Model, TCP/IP, switching, routing (BGP, OSPF, RIP/IGRP))

  • IT Management and operations toolsets (SCCM, NNMi, Solarwinds, SNOW)

  • Linux-based operating systems (RedHat, AIX, Centos)

  • Microsoft Windows

  • Understanding of both the Converged and Hyper Converged Infrastructure

  • Working knowledge of an enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF, Zachman) and identifying the relationships between business services, information, applications and global infrastructure assets

  • Demonstrated ability to understand a client’s requirements and present appropriate architectural options

  • Demonstrated presentation and communication skills

  • Strong communication skills required as this position will be interacting regularly with high-level client sponsors/decision makers

  • Specific industry knowledge such as Airlines is a plus

Required

  • Bachelors in Computer Science, MIS or related field

  • 5+ years of demonstrated security experience in a combination of technical engineering, architect, leads, or enterprise cloud roles

  • 2 + years' of demonstrated experience in cloud security (experience with AWS or Azure IaaS cloud desired)

  • 3 + years' of demonstrated experience in network security

  • Proven experience with deploying and managing various security technologies

  • Hands on experience with Linux/UNIX and Windows operating systems

  • Experience with regulatory requirements such as PCI and SOX

  • Knowledge of GDPR

  • Experience working with Enterprise Architecture standards and processes

  • Proven experience with creation of technical diagrams and documentation

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently and proceed with objectives

  • Strong communication skills to work with both collaborative cross-functional team of peers and departments within the company

  • Strong motivation and desire to learn

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • AWS Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate

  • Networking – CCNP or JNCIP

  • Windows MCSE: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure

  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

  • Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP)
