Job overview and responsibilities

The Manager of Pilot Hiring Strategic Projects is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of strategic pilot hiring initiatives, in partnership with Flight Operations, United Express and other internal and external stakeholders. This includes mapping out objectives, resources, timeline, risks, KPIs, workstreams, and owners, ultimately facilitating execution and supporting change management. This position will ensure project delivery on time, on budget and in support of program objectives

  • Utilize comprehensive project management methodology and processes to develop and manage strategic pilot hiring and HR projects, with a particular focus on the Talent Acquisition processes, tools and resources needed to execute

  • Provides program management expertise, business acumen and leadership skills to facilitate the identification and management of all interdependencies and areas of risk

  • Maintain a comprehensive dashboard of active and future pilot hiring projects including status, description of project, timeline and action items

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders within United and other external partners to drive program initiatives

  • Applies knowledge and data to proactively resolve process issues/problems


  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years managing projects

  • Experience with project management and/or professional partnerships

  • Strategic planning and partnership management

  • Demonstrated consulting and influencing skills and relationship management

  • Ability to collaborate internally and externally with multiple stakeholders

  • Project and strategic workforce planning experience

  • Data analysis, forecasting and manpower modeling

  • Project management and problem resolution skills

  • Ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders

  • Highly organized with a keen attention to detail

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Highly skilled in Microsoft office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Advanced degree (MBA)

  • Project Management (PMI Certification)

  • United workforce knowledge and experience desired

  • Prior talent acquisition and/or pilot hiring experience

  • Skilled knowledge and experience with Salesforce, PeopleSoft, ATS

  • Familiarity with communications and change management concepts
