Job overview and responsibilities

The Senior Manager of E-Commerce Technology is a key leadership role in the Commercial Technology and Corporate Systems portfolio and will be responsible for defining and executing technology strategy for building, maintaining and modernizing United.Com. United.Com is one of the largest E-Commerce sites by sales volume at just under $14B in 2017. The portfolio covers modern web solution architecture leveraging the latest JavaScript frameworks and engineering including software best practices, with a view of continuously improving the United.Com experience for our customers.

Reporting to the Director - E-Commerce Technology, at our Corporate Support Center at Willis Tower and the new Digital Design Center in Chicago, IL. Approximately 10% of travel required for this position.

  • Partner with the E-Commerce product team to define United Airline’s E-Commerce strategy

  • Lead, build and motivate a talented team of E-Commerce technology professionals providing vision, direction and guidance

  • Optimize the experience on United.Com to improve conversion and increase repeat purchases

  • Analyze and assess the effectiveness of all existing operations and current/future needs based on new technology and market competition

  • Develop and execute a sustainable model to enable the continuous improvement of United.Com from both technology and product perspectives

  • Review end-to-end architecture of United.Com in partnership with the Enterprise Architecture team, jointly recommending a new and long-term sustainable architecture for the web site, and plan and deliver the new technology architecture for United.com

  • Identify and apply proven techniques and tools to improve the overall quality and engineering pace of delivery of new product delivery

  • Develop, report on and continuously improve KPI's by enhancing our site monitoring and optimization capabilities to make sure application is performing at the highest level for the best customer experience

  • Partner with the Infrastructure and Enterprise Architecture teams to jointly design, develop and activate the cloud strategy for United.Com to enable sustained very high global availability and performance of the site

  • Accountable for administrative management of IT professionals, either as direct reports or sourced – HR administration, Salary administration, Time Reporting, budget, etc.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and/or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of management experience in an IT or leadership related role

  • 10+ years' experience in software development building high performing, high volume web applications

  • 4+ years’ experience in multiple technical platforms, operating systems, and development languages including client side browser technology including JavaScript, CSS, HTML, REACT/REDUX with emphasis on Single Page Applications (SPA)

  • Experience in designing and developing in object-oriented programming (OOP) languages including .NET C# and leveraging industry standard design patterns/practices (12 Factor)

  • Experience with source control - Git, work item tracking - TFS and Jira, and continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) tools

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
