Job overview and responsibilities

The Manager Airport Operations Cargo is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Cargo Services. The leader is responsible to manage all freight and mail. Responsible for motivating the frontline work force to produce exceptional results with regard to all performance metrics while managing issues and performance in the assigned area of responsibility and respective shift.

  • The Manager is co-developer of the station financial and operational plans

  • Responsible to execute those plans and adjust as needed throughout the year in order to achieve corporate and local station goals

  • Front line enforcer of all Company and Governmental policies, procedures and mandates which include, but are not limited to safety, training, administration/payroll, staffing, leadership development, security directives, manuals, tariffs, CMIS, FAA, DOT, TSA, CBP and other contractual requirements

  • Staff: Expected to work closely to motivate and promote growth/advancement through a consistent and fair application of coaching and counseling, while setting the example of a positive role model

  • Business: Maintain a positive interactive relationship with the Cargo Sales team to assist and support in developing strategies and programs aimed to increase revenue, while reducing exposure to penalties/fines, claims and losses

  • Manage staff, Corporate & local initiatives, reduce overall operating costs and deliver a product that is Clean, Safe and Reliable

  • Maintain authorized staffing levels to maximize performance for operational schedules

  • Maintain an Open Door Policy to meet employee expectations

  • Manage overtime to meet authorized/budgeted requirements

  • Promote and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) program and the station current level/status in the program

  • Coordinate, monitor and ensure compliance for all local, safety and regulatory training requirements

  • Maintain Operational Productivity levels

  • Customer Service, QuickPak, Ramp, Import, Export, Trucking, Front Dock, Mail, COMAT, ULD & PetSafe

  • Monitor/maintain and ensure compliance for all Security Screening Directives

  • Ensure consistent and professional handling of OAL Contracts

  • Facility and GSE Management

  • Maintain and monitor all aspects of Corporate Compliance for the air freight product, which includes but is not limited to all Regulatory programs (FAA, DOT, CBP, USPS, TSA, OSHA) as well as specific Import & Export compliance standards

  • Manage cargo operations in a region including line stations and UAX/UGE stations

  • Penalties, Fines, Claims and Losses

  • Cargo security screening (100% required)

  • Hazmat/Dangerous Goods training and compliance

  • Mail scanning and delivery performance

  • ULD airworthiness compliance

  • OSHA and safety compliance

  • Internal audit compliance

  • Internal / External Customer Interaction

  • Interfacing with customers, other department counterparts and peers

  • Frontline management interaction and development

  • Business Partner Interaction

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED or education equivalent

  • Excellent Communication skills

  • Project Management Skills

  • Vendor Management

  • Ability to engage frontline Leaders and Cargo Employee population

  • Ability to lead and sustain continuous improvement environment and initiatives

  • Leadership Development Skills

  • 3-5 years Cargo Operations experience

  • Continuous Improvement experience

  • May be required to work weekends and holidays as the operation requires

  • Up to 20% travel

  • Must NOT have lived outside of the United States in the past 5 years for any period longer than six months, with the exception of military duty or government-approved exceptions

  • Successful candidate must be able to clear a criminal history check in order to obtain and retain credentials necessary for position. Specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA / TSA / Airport Authority / US Customs.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field and 3-5 years management experience, with Airport Hub experience

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in large departmental environment

  • Scheduling and budget data

  • Strong Union Relations background

  • Business Administration/Organizational Acumen

  • Extensive experience in managing station cargo operations - mail and freight

  • Excellent employee and union relations as well as experience administering union contracts

  • Experience in relationship building and negotiation with contract vendors, government agencies, such as Airport Authority, CSC, support organizations, and other airlines leadership

  • 5 years of leadership experience with cargo operations
