Job overview and responsibilities

The Air Traffic Manager will be UAL's ATC liaison as on-site subject matter expert for the purpose of improving daily ATC operational performance. The position will monitor and tactically advance and develop daily ATC performance as a primary responsibility. The position will be based on airport to permit direct interaction with the FAA as an external stakeholder, as well as UA's numerous internal local stakeholders Airport Operations(AO), Flight Operations (FO) and UAL Express. The position will provide expert guidance to the NOC's leadership team for use in daily ops planning, and mitigation of IROPS. The position will also provide Company Tower leadership, supervision, guidance, and training.

  • Represent UAL to FAA and other stakeholders as the local ATC subject-matter-expert (SME) to improve daily operational performance, and provide oversight of the Company Tower Lead, supervise, provide guidance, mentoring and training, to the Company Tower

  • Establish regular daily interaction with local FAA

  • The goal is to build and improve on external relationships, improve operational performance, and create initiatives that will enhance local ATC

  • Establish close working relationship with the NOC, for onsite SME opinion, forecasting, and mitigation of IROPS


  • B.S. in Aviation or equivalent airline or ATCexperience

  • Minimum 5 years of airline and/or ATC experience or equivalent

  • Highly knowledgeable SME in ATC, NAS and/or related concepts of flight operations

  • Exhibits extraordinary decision making that enhances the airport’s operation and maximizes United assets

  • Displays extraordinary leadership, coaching, and mentoring skill

  • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written

  • Able to build and maintain solid working relationship with a variety of stakeholders

  • Intimate knowledge of Airline/Airport Operations

  • Knowledge of Ramp Control Tower processes

  • International travel - 5%

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position


  • Related aviation certification

  • Airman Certification, ATC, ATP, pilot, dispatch

  • College degree with specialization in ATC

  • ATC experience
