Job overview and responsibilities
The Manager, Air Traffic Systems reports to the Hub Ramp Tower Manager. He/she will provide leadership, expertise, and real-time decision-making for issues regarding aircraft movement on the ramp/apron area of IAH. He/she is the immediate supervisor to the ATS ramp controllers and is liaison to his/her counterpart in the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower and the Houston Station Operations Center.
Supervisory/Operational Duties, Responsibilities, and Activities
Supervises the actions of ramp controllers to ensure an orderly and expeditious flow of traffic to and from gates
Coordinate with Houston Station Operations Center (SOC) and Network Operations Center (NOC) to determine priority handling requirements for optimum DOT performance
Must possess a good working knowledge of aircraft performance and air traffic flows—terminal and surface
Manages ground movement of aircraft to optimize the flow of departures to ground control, based on ATC Traffic Management Initiatives and restrictions, established FAA departure procedures, and company priorities
Coordinates and disseminates pertinent information to respective NOC, SOC stakeholders, and appropriate departments
Coordinates with local Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and local airport authority officials to maximize efficiency
Oversees ramp control activities and coordinates with local FAA facilities on a “real-time” basis to stage, sequence, and in some cases coordinate departure routes through dispatch to minimize departure delays
Proactive coordination with company ATC coordinators and then local FAA facilities to avoid potential diversions due to weather or airborne holding
Provides focused attention on United’s operational priorities, e.g., STAR performance, D:0, A:15, crew duty times, and other time-sensitive and focus flights/destinations
Monitors the airport surface using web-based tools to facilitate expeditious movement to and from ramp areas so as to avoid long taxi delay
Shift position, night and weekend work will be required
Occasionally performs ATS Ramp Control duties

Administrative Duties, Responsibilities, and Activities
Scheduling of ATS Ramp Controllers
Certifies ramp controllers to work unsupervised
Oversees new-hire training and conducts recurrent training of certified controllers and required record keeping in compliance with department procedures.
Follows up on facility issues, outages, radio shop, and IT.
Conducts annual performance review of ramp controllers to identify positive and negative trends
High School Diploma
Ramp Control certification
Intimate knowledge of Airline/Airport Operations
Supervisory experience in Airline/Airport Operations
Flexible schedule, willing and able to work nights and weekends
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
4 year College Degree
3-4 years of management experience in Airline/Airport Operations
Relevant combination of education and experience
